Steady State Cardio refers to any activity at a heart rate of 105-120BPM. This can be achieved through any number of activities, including walking, cycling, swimming and yoga. At this heart rate, the body burns a high proportion of calories from stored body fat, making it a very powerful tool for anyone looking to lose weight or reduce body fat. Furthermore, exercise within this heart rate range does not accumulate fatigue and doesn’t require recovery in the same way as a more intense workout.
Ideally a session lasts between 20-90 minutes but it doesn’t have to be prescriptive – Steady State Cardio is less of a workout and more part of an overall healthy lifestyle. They are technically rest days, but it's active rest and provides an excellent tool to bolster our actual workout days.
